Remediation Effort Continues
Schlage Lock continues to operate numerous onsite and offsite
remediation systems with great success, cleaning up PCE in soil and
groundwater. Onsite treatment systems including Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE),
recirculating sparge wells (ART), and sparge wells continue to reduce
PCE concentrations in the source areas. Also onsite, groundwater
extraction wells continue to cut-off the migration of PCE-containing
groundwater at the property boundary. Offsite, the cut-off system at
Bradley Road continues to stop the migration of PCE-containing
groundwater into the Widefield Aquifer. In the Widefield Aquifer, PCE
concentrations in groundwater are decreasing and at some locations have
already met the State’s drinking water standard. At Willow Springs
Ponds, Schlage Lock operates two surface water aerators that are
maintaining surface water concentrations below the State’s “fish plus
water” standard for PCE. Schlage is also operating an air
sparge treatment system to treat groundwater before entering Willow
Springs Pond No.1. Schlage Lock is committed to protecting the
environment and continues to work closely with the Colorado Department
of Public Health and Environment to ensure the remediation technologies
it uses are the most appropriate.
